I like to think of this as a symbiotic relationship in which nature provides the necessities for the other. This is a good example of where we have to stop and think about the nature of the relationship to truly make sense of it, but it is a good one.
This relationship can go one of two ways, depending on the situation. Sometimes it’s a symbiotic relationship, in which both the species benefit from each other, but it’s not a mutual one. This is the kind of relationship that can be explained by the animals not having a will of their own. If nature is providing the necessities for the other, then nature is the one who’s benefitting from it, not the other way around.
A symbiosis is a relationship where both individuals receive something in return for the benefits they receive from the other. For example, we have ants with us because ants are a necessity for the survival of the species. When we don’t have ants, we won’t survive. This is a symbiotic relationship, but it is not a mutual one.

What makes it a cow, I always thought, is it’s horns. So if a fish has horns, it’s a cow. If a cow has horns, it’s a fish. So it’s not a fish that looks like a fish.
