A proportional relationship means that a value or quantity is in proportion to another value or quantity.
Well that’s easy enough. If one quantity is measured in pounds and another in ounces then a proportional relationship is an equation that says one quantity is in proportion to the other.
If we say that the price of a car is 50 pounds then it is proportional to the car’s price, so 50 pounds is in proportion to 50 ounces. This is the concept of a proportional relationship.
Just like in our car example, a proportional relationship is a relationship between two values that has the same denominator. For example, if the price of a car is in pounds and it is one of the three most popular cars in the world, then it is in proportion to the price. The only difference is the numerator. The price of a car in dollars is in proportion to the amount of cars sold in the world.
I like the word “proportional,” so I’m using that instead of “proportionate.” So in the case of our car example, 50 pounds is in proportion to 50 ounces. This is because it’s a proportionate relationship. But not in our case with the proportionate relationship of our car to the other two cars. That’s because the car is of the same size, and the other two cars are quite different in size.
This is because our car is a car, and our other two cars are cars. And because we bought them at the same price, they are all the same size. But the proportions of the two cars are not the same. And so we’re getting different amounts of profit from the sale of our car. In the same way, the proportions of our car and the other two cars to the same amount of profit are different.
When you buy a car, you know the proportions of your car and the other cars you have. But if you sell your car, you don’t know the proportions of the car you sold, and so aren’t able to calculate the price you’ll make if you sell it.
It’s true, we can’t really estimate the price of a car from the vehicle itself. We can only estimate the price of the vehicle and the car with good repair. But we can estimate the price of the car with good repair from the vehicle with good repair. We can’t just go and get a new vehicle but also sell the car we had that we can’t really sell.
A proportional relationship is one where the price of the other is proportional to the price of the other. Let’s say I buy a new car. If the price of a new car is the same as selling a new car, I can sell my old car and get a new car for the same amount. Because the price of my new car is the same as the price of the other car.
Yeah, as it turns out, the price of a car is proportional to the size of the car. If I buy a small car for $40,000, I can sell it and get a $40,000 car for the same price as I would if I bought a bigger car. In both cases, the price of the car will be the same. This isn’t exactly what I said, but I think it’s a pretty fair generalization.
